Tommaso Ausili

Tommaso Ausili was born in 1970 in Rome, where he still resides. He began working in photography after completing his degree. Originally interested in geographic photography, he gradually transitioned to photojournalism. In 2009, he started the project "The Hidden Death," capturing the final moments of life for animals in slaughterhouses. The following year, this project won him the World Press Photo award (3rd Prize – Contemporary Issues Stories) and the Iris d’Or at the Sony World Photography Awards as Photographer of the Year 2010. That same year, he joined the Contrasto agency, producing work for major Italian and international magazines. In 2012, he embarked on the project "The Dust Under the Carpet," a long-term investigation into asbestos pollution in Italy. This project also marked his debut in video, with the documentary The White Town, focused on the Eternit case in Casale Monferrato. The project was selected for numerous international festivals. In 2015, he founded the ROAM collective, aiming to reinterpret the iconography of Rome.
